Who writes it

My name is Dan Swenson. I am a data nerd who is also a Minnesota workers' compensation attorney and a city council member. Public information should not be hard to use, so I build this network of sites as a hobby: I pull scattered public records out of PDFs and government databases and turn them into tools regular people can actually use. I do not use these sites to find legal clients, except for MN Comp Buddy which is my actual day job. The tools are free. The sites pay for their own hosting through clearly disclosed referral links and a few optional paid guides.

This site is an educational publication in the self-help tradition: it explains a federal regulation, cites its sources, and gives readers tools to use themselves. It is not a law firm acting for you, and nothing here is legal advice about your situation. Reading this site, or buying the Binder, does not create an attorney-client relationship.

Why it exists

Funeral purchases happen at the worst possible time to comparison shop, which is exactly why a federal rule exists to protect the buyer. Most families have never heard of it. The funeral industry knows the rule well; the customer almost never does. This site exists to even that up.

How it makes money

Two ways: the Binder is a paid PDF, and some retailer links on the buying-guide pages may be referral links that pay this site a small commission. Those retailers are named because buying direct saves families real money against the selection room, and a referral fee never changes the price you pay. Everything informational is free: the rights, the checklist, and every citation. No funeral home pays to appear here, to rank, or to look better, and none ever will.
